Taylor, Williamson County — the Austin metro.
Taylor has been a hundred-year-old farming town for most of its life, and then Samsung started building a semiconductor plant on its edge and the trajectory changed completely. Both of those facts are visible in the work.
The old part of town is genuinely old — turn-of-the-century and pre-war houses, many still standing on the piers they were built on, with a century of Texas summers behind them. Meanwhile the edges are turning from farmland into subdivisions, and land prices are moving in a way nobody here planned for.

The thing that makes Taylor different from everywhere else we work is that land is still affordable. That single fact changes what makes sense to build. A cabin on a Taylor lot is a reasonable thing to do with a few thousand square feet of ground; the same cabin in central Austin is competing with land worth more than the building.
So this is where second dwellings, workshops and rental cabins actually pencil out — and where people who have owned a family lot for decades are now working out what to put on the empty half of it.
